The Away-Day Feeling

The Away-Day Feeling

Its often regularly mentioned that the away fans of a football team are the backbone or the spine often the voices of any match day, I would certainly agree with that notion to a certain extent. When you think of a football match of any meaning in any league, there is that rivalry which cannot be replaced, the home fans often need the away fans to wake them in some respects to try and out chant to direct emotion of all kinds.

Please don't misinterpret what I am trying to say here, this is not a dig at those football fans who do not travel to the away fixtures no not at all, the home fans are an integral piece of the football puzzle, making the beautiful as special as it is for us all to this day. The thrill of an away match for me personally offers something a little different, lets start with the early morning; the distance to travel filled with pride for the shirt you a wearing and often optimism of what is ahead.

The feeling of freedom of new surroundings - a new pub, the chanting, and that surreal feeling should it occur of leaving an away ground with the win. I just think about that 'Away Day' feeling. It makes me feel concerned that slowly we are seeing it become more and more expensive, take into account the ticket price, mixed with the travel, the food, the programs. Even the beers! (If that is your thing - its definitely mine).

Are we heading into an age where we can no longer part-take in such an old tradition? We are continuing to see 'boycotts' fans stopping to attend and support the teams they love, because of sheer greed. Take for example in recent weeks, we have seen Hull City raise excessively prices for their away side, dependent on who is visiting this is not fair.

Its that 'Away-day Feeling' and similar aspects that we cannot allow to be taken from us, we must make a stand; together we must change the way modern football is operating! To enable us to continue feeling the away ends and bringing the noise with us!
